At the Sternhütte
The rich tastes of regional cooking
in our mountain chalet restaurant
Whether it's winter hiking in South Tyrol, a ski tour, or a summer walk, the Sternhütte on the Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo has always been a popular destination for active sports enthusiasts and bon vivants who want to take a break and indulge in culinary delights.
The Sternhütte is located at 1,946 m above sea level. It was named after the former Stern Hotel in Sterzing/Vipiteno. The chalet was built in 1923 and served the former hotelier's family as an occasional, private summer home.
In 1993, planning permission was finally granted to turn the chalet into a dining establishment, and it was lovingly renovated and extended over time.
We always strive to combine the traditional with the new at the Sternhütte, whether it is the ambience of our dining room or how we prepare our dishes. Our guests have come to love this skilful combination. Local and regional food and drinks, carefully prepared and seasoned with fragrant herbs ensure an intense taste experience.
Wherever possible, we make our own products with the raw materials that nature gives us. We make our own teas, bake our own bread, offer home-made jams and honey, and even make soaps from the edelweiss that grows in our garden. The exclusive dishes that we serve in the Sternhütte are enhanced with herbs from our own garden. Our special theme evenings, such as fondue on Fridays and Tyrolean spare ribs and Bavarian weisswurst on the weekends, provide plenty of variety for our guests.
Those staying in our mountain chalet suites enjoy our daily breakfast buffet from 7.30 to 10.30, featuring mostly homemade and regional products! Those not staying with us can also enjoy the breakfast buffet as a great start to their day on the mountain. Please book in advance. If you also want to dine at the Sternhütte at midday or in the evening, we will gladly reserve a spot for you in one of our cosy dining rooms or on the panoramic terrace (weather permitting).
